How to Make a Bouquet Last Longer in Dubai's Climate
Flowers don't behave the same way in Dubai as they do in cooler climates. Between the outdoor heat, the dry air from air conditioning, and the constant shift between indoors and out, fresh flowers take a real hit. The good news: a few simple habits can easily double the life of your bouquet, even in the middle of summer.
Why flowers fade faster in Dubai
Two main factors shorten a bouquet's life here. First, heat speeds up water loss through the petals and encourages bacteria to grow in the vase water. Second, air conditioning dries out the air far more than a temperate climate would, pulling moisture out of the petals from the inside. Left unmanaged, a bouquet can lose half its normal lifespan.
What to do as soon as you receive your bouquet
Recut the stems at an angle. Using a clean knife or floral shears (never office scissors, which crush the stem), cut about 2–3 cm off at a diagonal. This increases the surface area for water absorption and stops the stem from sitting flat against the bottom of the vase.
Remove every leaf below the waterline. Submerged leaves rot within hours and feed bacteria growth — the number one reason a bouquet "turns" within two days in Dubai.
Use clean, fresh water.
Where to place your bouquet at home
Placement matters just as much as the care routine:
- Keep it away from a direct AC vent or fan — the dry airflow dehydrates petals within hours.
- Keep it away from a window in direct afternoon sun — heat trapped behind double glazing can climb past 40°C.
- Keep it away from a fruit bowl: ripening fruit releases ethylene gas, which speeds up wilting.
- A cool, bright spot without direct sun — a moderately air-conditioned living room — works best.
Everyday maintenance
Change the water every two days, even if it still looks clear — that's where invisible bacteria build up. Each time, trim the stems by a few millimetres to reopen the water channels.
With air conditioning in the mix, it also helps to lightly mist the petals (not the flower's centre) every day or two with a spray bottle — a step that barely matters in a temperate climate but makes a real difference in Dubai.

Without any care, a fresh bouquet often lasts just 3–4 days in an air-conditioned home in Dubai. Follow these steps and most arrangements last 7–10 days, with hardier flowers like roses or chrysanthemums often going past two weeks.
